GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION

Graduating students are equipped with detailed knowledge of nursing and general knowledge of medical and health sciences. They are familiar with legal regulations and ethical standards related to the nursing profession. Graduates are well prepared to pursue their job unassisted, in coherence with the principles of professional ethics and a holistic approach to a patient while respecting the patient’s rights and dignity. On graduation, nursing students have all the necessary skills and abilities to provide comprehensive and patient-tailored care to people with illnesses, disabilities and those requiring palliative treatment. They can also conduct activities aimed at profilaxis and health promotion. After obtaining the bachelor’s degree in nursing, students are prepared to take up the second-cycle studies.

Completing nursing studies makes students eligible to take up employment in both public and private health care units as well as to become self-employed and provide nursing care and health promoting services. The obtained diploma also entitles graduates to pursue a nursing career in other EU countries.

Stefan Batory State University offers the first-cycle vocational programme (bachelor’s degree studies) in the nursing profession. The education plan and curriculum are in accordance with the Regulation issued by the Minister of Science and Higher Education on 9 May 2012 concerning the tuition standards for the following fields of study: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and obstetrics (Dz. U. of 5 June 2012, item 631). They also comply with the requirements for the training of nurses under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as of 7 September 2005 on recognising academic and professional qualifications (Dz.U. UE. L.05.255.22).

All the lectures and classes at PUSB are run by experienced university teachers with an extensive professional practice. Most of the teaching staff working in the Institute of Health Sciences are lecturers representing The Medical University of Lodz, The Medical University of Warsaw, Food and Nutrition Institute (Warsaw) and The Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice.
